“King” David Perez: Tulsa Boxer Western Olympic Tournament Qualifier

Twenty-one year old Tulsa boxer, “King” David Perez (KDP), is fighting for his shot in Tokyo this week. The Summer Olympic games is one of the most viewed broadcasts on an international level. Featuring athletic competitions all over the globe, one section the western world greatly enjoys is boxing. One of the most root combat sports, boxing is one of the most thrilling in the Olympic games. From “Smokin” Joe Frazier, Muhammad Ali, Mike “Mikey” Tyson, and Floyd “Money” Mayweather, the USA boxing team has cherished a dynasty of the most famous athletes in history.

In 2019, the city of Tulsa has an opportunity to send more athletes to the Olympics than ever before. Several are contenders in qualifying tournaments for Team USA this year, including Tulsa Boxer, David Perez. Training just over six years as an amateur boxer at the Engine Room in Tulsa, Perez is ranked as a top seed in this week’s Western Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Perez, or King David, is coming off a major boost of confidence after winning his State Golden Gloves by TKO in the Finals.

KDP made weight this Sunday morning; weighing in at 124.8lbs, Perez will weigh in again Monday morning and will compete later at 6pm against the qualifying boxer from Florida in his first Olympic qualifying round. The Tulsa native has set high hopes of being on Team USA and competing professionally in 2020. With his incredibly quick and accurate style, KDP is a favorite in the tournament. “I’m expecting myself to show-out and represent my city of Tulsa to the best of my ability,” stated Perez in an interview. “I’m ready to show everyone how hard I have worked these past six years.”

Perez is also feeling confident with the timing of his fight. An early weigh-in, but late fight means plenty of time to eat again, warm-up, and get in the correct mental state to take on his Florida contender.

Tulsans are never an underdog, but always a fierce contender. You can send support David Perez’s way by sharing the hype video above and tweeting #TeamKDP or #KDP. Lyon Films & Media share direct contact with David and he is sure to see all the support and feedback.
